Game Developer

3C Institute is a Durham-based, double bottom line R&D company that is devoted to creating proven technologies that improve health and well-being on a global scale.

Role and Responsibilities: This role is for a generalist game programmer. You will be setting up 2D scenes inside Godot, writing GdScript to create scripted interactions in individual scenes, as well helping build and enhance the core game systems. In addition, you will build and maintain developer tools, integrate games with web-based platforms, and maintain our legacy HTML5 games. In the short term you will develop Emotion Explorer, a learning game in Godot for children in grades K-2 that teaches emotional literacy.

This is a full-time, salaried position.

Our offices are located in Durham, NC; we prefer local candidates but will consider well-qualified remote candidates based in the United States.

Required Qualifications:  

  • 4 year degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
  • 2 or more years’ experience in game development (school and side projects count).
  • Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming.
  • Experience with the Godot game engine.
  • Experience using Git or other source control.
  • Comfortable with 2D math.
  • Strong communication skills: written and verbal.
  • Highly motivated and a self-starter.
  • A personal desire to learn new skills.
  • Comfort in dealing with the change and ambiguity of a startup environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Developer tools experience in animation and/or game production pipelines.
  • Contributed to the Godot engine source code.
  • Experience with Javascript.
  • Experience with TypeScript.
  • Experience with HTML5 game development.
  • Experience with Flash and ActionScript.
  • Experience with Adobe Animate.

Compensation: 3C offers employees market-rate salaries, health care, a health savings account, and other benefits. Specifically, with this role, your annual salary will be determined by a combination of experience and market rates.
