3C Institute’s commercialization partner, Personalized Learning Games, has just launched a new, improved version of Zoo U that includes a social skills assessment as well as a robust, personalized social skill-building component.
Created for children ages 7-12, Zoo U Home Edition addresses a wide range of key social and emotional skills such as impulse control, emotion regulation, effective communication, empathy, cooperation, and conversation initiation. Players become students in a school for future zookeepers, where Principal Wild and a host of friendly animals help them learn critical skills as they navigate common social scenarios.
Zoo U is the only research-proven online game that assesses children’s social and emotional skills and provides a targeted intervention based on that assessment, enabling the program to meet each child’s individual needs.
In a recent research study, children who played Zoo U:
- showed significant improvements in controlling impulses, initiating conversation, and managing emotions
- showed less aggression in social interactions
- reported feeling more confident about social interactions and more accepted by peers
- made significant gains in social skills knowledge, especially communication, cooperation, and empathy
Play the demo and see how many gold coins you can rack up with your social smarts!
Zoo U School Edition, geared toward school counselors and teachers, will be available in early 2015.
