Melissa DeRosier, PhD

PRESIDENT/EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Brief Biography:
Dr. DeRosier is the president and executive director of 3-C Institute for Social Development. She obtained her MA in developmental psychology from the University of Virginia and her PhD in clinical psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. DeRosier has many years experience working with children in both clinical and research settings with an emphasis on children's social relationships with peers and parents.

Brief Biography:
Katie Garard is the finance manager for 3-C Institute for Social Development, Inc, 3-C Family Services, PA, and SELmedia, Inc. She is also a part of company management and serves as a team leader. Her primary job responsibility is overall financial management including both analysis and daily functions. Ms. Garard received her BS in business administration with a concentration in finance and communication from Meredith College in Raleigh, NC.

Ms. Lynch is the office manager, continuing education director, and IRB administrator for 3-C Institute for Social Development. Emily Bucci is a graphic publisher at 3-C Institute for Social Development. She works to develop graphic material to enhance developing products and serves as a member of the curriculum development team. She obtained her BA in journalism and mass communication with a concentration in graphic design from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Brief Biography:
At 3-C Institute for Social Development, Ms. Chin assists with the logo and brand development for products and courses. She is responsible for translating graphic elements into print, web, and video, depending on the project's needs. She assists with the layout and design for web interfaces such as online courses, programs, and interventions. Ms. Chin has experience in publishing, advertising, and TV and has worked with a wide range of media, including print, web, motion graphics, and video. Ms. Chin holds a BA in exercise and sports science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an associate's degree in web design and interactive media from the Arts Institute.

Jeff Jones is a graphic designer at 3-C Institute for Social Development. Mr. Jones grew up in the Raleigh area and received his degree from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. Mr. Jones has been with 3-C Institute for Social Development since April 2007 and brings over 13 years experience of graphic design and identity development.

Brief Biography:
Dr. McMillen is the research director at 3-C Institute for Social Development. She received her PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she currently holds appointments at FPG Child Development Institute and the School of Education. Her primary research interests include the social development of children with disabilities, social intervention strategies and the role of the environment in social inclusion.

Leigh Poole, MA

Leigh Poole is the project coordinator for a scientific evaluation of CenterVention, an online tool for putting evidence-based interventions into practice with high adherence and sustainability. She has more than thirteen years of social science research experience. Before coming to 3-C ISD, Ms. Poole worked on various evaluation and data reporting projects for several public universities, a non-profit, and a state-wide organization.

Ashley Craig, PhD

Dr. Craig has extensive experience in project management, data collection involving children and families (including observations), and analyzing multi-group data. She has taught several courses in lifespan development and the psychology of gender at NCSU.

Sarah Gonzalez is a research assistant for 3-C Institute for Social Development. She obtained her BA in psychology from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Sarah’s research experience includes working as a research assistant in the Marital Studies Lab at UNCW, with a focus on positive psychology. She also has clinical experience working with special needs children. Her research interests include therapies in special needs classrooms, communication within a marriage, eating disorders, and anxiety, particularly in children.

Rachel Smith is a research assistant at 3-C Institute for Social Development. She received her bachelor's in psychology from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Rachel's prior research experience includes working as a research assistant in a marital studies lab. Her focus was on the positive processes that occur within a marriage. She also has clinical experience working with abused women in a domestic violence shelter. Her current research interests involve the social-emotional functioning of children as it relates to at-risk youth and the involvement of parents in a child's development.

Ms. Spann is a research assistant at 3-C ISD. She received her BS in psychology with a concentration in developmental psychology from Duke University. Ms. Spann's research background encompasses intervention/prevention work with preadolescent and adolescent substance use, peer relational aggression, early childhood development, observational methods, and child protective services reform. Her current research interests include early childhood social development, future orientation as it relates to at-risk youth and deviant behaviors, self identity, and the role of media in disseminating child development and education research.

Lorraine Taylor, PhD

Dr. Taylor served on the faculty in developmental psychology at UNC-Chapel Hill and also worked as an investigator on the Promoting Academic Success of Boys of Color Initiative (PAS) at FPG Child Development Institute. She has published research on children’s transition to kindergarten, family-school relationships, and parental influences on children’s early academic experiences. Her work focuses on contextual and cultural influences on family relationships and child outcomes.

Mr. Hehman is the director of technology, managing all technology projects and information technology activities at 3-C Institute for Social Development, with a focus on web applications development and serious games technology. He has been with 3-C ISD since 2003 and was lead software architect for the company's Content Management System and Learning Management System technologies behind Interlink, 4researchers, Centervention, and related projects, and invented a technique for streaming segmented online video. Mr. Hehman also pioneered technology and software design for serious games designed to teach social skills and manages the information technology demands of 3-C ISD's research and development organization.

Ms. Maschauer is a self-taught artist with natural fine art abilities. At 3-C ISD, she focuses on fine arts illustrations for children's books and videos and works on character design and development and animation for computer games. Ms. Maschauer has authored several elementary school curricula and children's books at 3-C ISD. She obtained her BA in psychology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and her MS in clinical psychology from Radford University. She is a trained clinician, specializing in DBT and CBT therapies.
