What We Do
Research Studies

3-C ISD conducts research with children, families, schools, and community agencies to develop and deliver effective, evidence-based products. For our technology products that support the practice of research, we also recruit mental health professionals, intervention developers, and investigators in the behavioral sciences.

The following projects are currently recruiting participants:

Centervention Study

With funding from the National Institute of Mental Health, 3-C ISD has developed Centervention, a flexible web-based tool designed to support implementation of evidence-based interventions in real world settings. Centervention provides training, ongoing support, adherence monitoring, outcomes assessment, and real-time progress monitoring.

We are currently recruiting up to 32 elementary schools to be a part of a research study to test this powerful online system during the fall of 2012. Participating schools will be trained to implement three evidence-based interventions focused on children’s social-emotional health. All schools and educators in this research study will receive free professional training and intervention materials that normally cost more than $10,000.

To learn how your school can participate in this study, inquire online or contact Leigh Poole at poole@3cisd.com or (919)677-0102 x595.

Seeking Teens Who Have Chronic Kidney Disease, Type I Diabetes, or Asthma

With funding from the Centers for Disease Control, 3-C Institute for Social Development is developing a mobile application system designed to allow youth to track their treatment adherence and send information to their medical providers.  We are looking for adolescents and young adults diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease, Type I Diabetes, or Asthma and their parents to attend a 2-hour workgroup to review our system.

If your teen is eligible, and you and your teen are chosen to participate in the study, you and your teen will first be asked to:

  • Attend a 2-hour workgroup at 3-C ISD.  During the workgroup, you and your teen will review a prototype of the system and provide your feedback.

Each family that participates will receive a $50 gift card upon completion of the workgroup and questionnaires. You can see if your family is eligible by completing a brief online form.

If you have any questions about the research study, please contact, Ndidi Okeke-Adeyanju at 919.677.0102 Ext. 544 or adeyanju@3cisd.com.

Cultural Heritage Stories for Kids: Latino Series Efficacy Trial

3-C ISD is developing a school-based storytelling curriculum called Cultural Heritage Stories for Kids (CHSK), designed to celebrate diverse cultural heritages, promote acceptance of diversity, and educate students about similarities among cultures.

We're interested in evaluating the effectiveness of CHSK: Latino Series, which includes stories from professional storytellers that highlight the Mexican American, Latino American, and Puerto Rican American cultures.

We hope to have third, fourth, and fifth grade students from six elementary schools participate in the efficacy trial.

If you're interested in participating, contact Ndidi Okeke-Adeyanju at chskls@3cisd.com.

ParentWays for Adolescents

With funding from the National Institute of Mental Health, 3-C ISD has developed ParentWays for Adolescents, a training program for parents of 13- to 16-year-old adolescents who are experiencing social difficulties (shy, withdrawn, trouble making or keeping friends, acting out, hanging out with problematic peers).

We currently are recruiting up to 180 families to participate in a study to test the efficacy of the ParentWays training, which will begin in September 2012.

If you would like to participate in the study, you can learn more online or contact Rachel Kaplan at kaplan@3cisd.com or (919) 677-0102 ext. 565.
