Evidence-based Interventions > Emotional Literacy in the Classroom

Emotional Literacy in the Classroom Overview
Emotional Literacy in the Classroom is an evidence-based program that teaches children from kindergarten to second grade about recognizing, understanding, labeling, expressing, and regulating emotions.  This multimedia program (storybooks, audio CDs, discussion cards, worksheets, etc.) offers a wide range of cross-curricular activities including discussion, art, singing, movement, and creative storytelling to keep children engaged in the lessons. The curriculum reinforces learning by linking emotional literacy skills to standard academic goals. Teachers who use emotional literacy programs in their classrooms report decided improvement in their students’ peer relationships, writing ability, study skills, and overall behavior.

Emotional Literacy in the Classroom: Kindergarten
Research shows that knowledge and understanding of emotions leads to psychological health as well as social and academic success. In the kindergarten storybooks and materials, circus animals teach children about emotions such as happy, scared, proud, lonely, and brave.
