EdWeek Highlights Video of 3C’s Innovative Game for Children with Autism

A video about 3C Institute’s innovative game for children with high-functioning autism, Stories in Motion, was recently featured in an Education Week blog post, “Ed. Startups Get Money, Advice from Federal Program.”

In the post, the author discusses the U.S. Department of Education’s Small Business Innovation Research program, a funding stream that helps education technology entrepreneurs research, develop, and test innovative products. The U.S. Department of Education is one of 11 federal agencies that spend a collective $2 billion a year on the small-business effort.

Stories in Motion is an SBIR-funded product that helps children with high-functioning autism-spectrum disorder learn social problem-solving strategies. Children build a personalized avatar and create their own “social stories” by navigating through everyday social challenges like bullying, impulse control, and cooperation. Then they can watch an animated video of their story, print it as a comic book, and print highlight cards for later reference. Stories in Motion also gives educators a user-friendly online tool for teaching social skills and monitoring student progress.

Stories in Motion is scheduled to be available for purchase in Spring 2015. The game will be distributed through 3C Institute’s commercialization partner, Personalized Learning Games.
