Biography

Dr. McMillen is the Research Director at 3-C Institute for Social Development (3-C ISD), overseeing all research activities within the Intervention Division, with a particular emphasis on the development and testing of social, emotional, and behavioral interventions with children in clinical and school settings. She has been with the company since 2003 and has over 21 years of experience working with families and children from infancy through adolescence. Before coming to 3-C ISD, Dr. McMillen was a Research Investigator at Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute and a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Child Development & Family Studies Program at UNC-Chapel Hill. During her tenure at UNC, her research focused on children with disabilities and the development of social and behavioral difficulties secondary to their disabling condition. In addition, she has conducted research on the evaluation of early intervention services in both traditional and Department of Defense school settings and the role of the environment in social inclusion. She has been a member of the North Carolina Birth through Kindergarten Higher Education Committee, the North Carolina State Resource Planning Team for Early Intervention, and the National Birth Defects Prevention Network Data and Annual Report Committee. In addition, she has served as a guest reviewer for several professional journals, including Early Childhood Research Quarterly, the Journal of Early Intervention, Topics in Early Childhood Special Education, and the American Journal on Mental Retardation.
