3-C ISD’s Stories in Motion Mentioned in EdWeek Blog

Tom Vander Ark, a leader in the K-12 online learning arena, cited one of our serious games, Stories in Motion, in his Education Week blog post, “It’s Time for a Special Needs App Fund.”

In the post, Mr. Vander Ark acknowledges that mainstream apps have been helpful for children with special needs, but that these children would further benefit from apps specifically geared toward their special needs. He encourages the development of funds that combine philanthropic and venture capital.

Mr. Vander Ark points out that the Institute of Education Sciences (IES)—part of the U.S. Department of Education—is heading in this direction. IES program manager Edward Metz mentioned Stories in Motion as one example of an IES-funded product being developed specifically for children with special needs.

Stories in Motion, currently in Phase II development, uses cutting-edge narrative generation technology to transform traditional storytelling into an interactive web-based intervention. The game is designed to help upper elementary students with high-functioning autism spectrum disorder improve their social skills.

Stories in Motion is due for release in 2014.
