Dr. Melissa DeRosier, 3C Institute CEO & President, served as the keynote speaker at the Anti-Bullying Committee meeting in Holly Springs, NC on April 22, 2014. Holly Springs Mayor Dick Sears launched the committee with the aim of becoming a resource in the fight against bullying. The meeting was attended by policymakers, nonprofit leaders, and representatives from local schools.
Dr. DeRosier emphasized the importance of addressing bullying. According to a study she conducted, more than 70% of school violence is a reaction to bullying.
Bullying “has this insidious, damaging impact over time,” she said. She added, “There is a direct link between social and behavioral issues and academics.”
Dr. DeRosier handed out materials with definitions of bullying, statistics about bullying, and strategies for combatting it.
